Part of dealing with anxiety includes fear of the future or fear of something going wrong or something terrible happening.

And we spend so much time living in the future (and the past, let’s be real!) that we often don’t think about what is going on today, right here, right now.

For the most part, we don’t even really have control over future events or if we do, it’s very little.

Think about all the crappy stuff you’ve already been dealt in your life already or all the hard things you’ve been through and maybe didn’t think you could handle, but did.

I don’t think we give ourselves enough credit for how strong and resilient we are. I know I don’t always.

But these days when I am starting to freak out about some future event that likely won’t ever even happen, I try to think about the Stoic Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius and I start to feel more calm.

Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present.

His writings have really helped me to compassionately question my initial thoughts on any given situation or event, and really look at what I do control and what I don’t control, and let go of the rest.

Trust that you will be faced with shitty life events and loss, but that it too shall pass and that you are in fact strong enough to face anything, just like you already have and do on a daily basis.

I truly believe you have what it takes! I hope you do as well.
